WHEAT PRICES UP

JAPAN BUYING HEAVILY. UNPRECEDENTED POSITION. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Oct. 7, 11.10 a.m. NEW YORK, Oct. 6. Experienced men in the Chicago wheat trade say the present oosition is unprecedented. They attribute this to the unfavourable harvest abroad. This is indicated by the European demand tor high-grade wheat and flour, which t is evidently intended to mix with European low grade. There is a strong j apanese demand, and their buying futures are marked features of the position . < Everybody is asking how much higher prices, which are the highest for 24 years, excepting 1916, are going. The Chicago Tribune declares that the public need not be surprised to see them go much higher.
