ZAGHLUL’S VISIT.
“TO GAIN AND NOT TO LOSE.” BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Oct. 3. Zaghlul Pasha to-night declared: “I did not come to- London t"o- approve British occupation of Egypt. I came to gain and not lose something.” The Daily Herald’s diplomatic correspondent says Zaghlul and Mr. MacDonald failed to find a basis for negotiations. He understands that military occupation was the stumbling block. In vieiv of Britain’s special interest in the Suez Canal, Egyptians are willing that Britain should retain a garrison in the canal zone, hut not elseAA’here, particularly in the citadel of Cairo. The Committee of Imperial Defence decided against withdrawal tc the canal zone.
