Applications for the position of poundkeeper were received from A. Merrie and J. Daley. As A. Merrie had previously officiated in a temporary capacity he was appointed. A discussion ensued concerning the position of town and county ranger. Commissioner Greaves thought an alteration should he made, and as the •ranger acted in a dual capacity for both the Town Board and the County Council, moved that his services be dispensed with. Commissioners Hickey and Hobday did not favour the proposal, and considered that the best interests of ratepayers would not be served through the appointment of separate rangers.. A deputation consisting of Crs. Innes, Jones and Hickey was appointed to wait upon the County Council with reference to the matter. * RATES. The question of striking rates for the current year was given considerable discussion, it being finally resolved to call a special meeting to further consider the matter on reecipt of i-equired advice concerning the drainage loan. For tile information of members,- it was decided that a statement of all revenue receipts be placed on the table each month. FOREMAN’S REPORT. The report of the foreman (Mr T. A portion of the lately tarred section on South Road by the Town Hall is chipping -off; this, I think, is caused by the centre of the road for a short, distance, being- very high in the crown. - Kapuni Street between All Budd’s residence and the Sutherland Road has been very bad this spring, a part of it requiring filling ; if the road was graded 'to the level of the footpath the spoil could be used to fill the dip.
