OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT". “THE FIGHTING BLADE. ’ “The Fighting Blade.” a First National attraction featuring iubhard Bai the’me.ss-, opens at the Opera House to-night and will be shown torn onow (Saturday) at 2 o’clock and 8 o'clock. This picture is based on English history at a romantic time, during the Cromwell period. There are critics who will tell you that costume pictures are not appreciated, but this particular production has confounded these critics by the success it has met with in Australia, and New Zealand. Richard Barthelmess is most convincing "as Karl van Kerstenbrook, a famous Dutch swordsman who comes to England to avenge the betrayal of his sister by an Englishman. It is the time of the struggle between the Cavaliers and Roundheads, and Kerstenbrook very soon becomes mixer]' up in political intrigue. His adventures during these stirring times are many and varied, and go to make a most entertaining . picture. Settings, costumes, photography, and all other essentials are in keeping with this very fine programme. The whole entertainment is of a distinctly high class,, and can be heartily recommended. An excellent supporting programme will he presented. OPERA HOUSE TUESDAY. DUKE! OF CONNAUGHT ADMIRES CHERNIAVSKY TRIO. Great admirers of the Oherniavskys. the Russian instrumentalists of note, who will appear at the Opera House 'U;e"- 1 °v. ore the Duke of Connaught and his daughter Patricia. They never miss- ;an opportunity of hearing these brilliant voung artists. During His Excellency’s regime at Government House, Ottawa, they frecmeutly were entertained by the Oherniavskys. The London Daily Telegraph of July 16, said: “The prodigy comes into our musical life only too often, and in the majority of eases quickly passes out of it. In the case of the brothers Cherniavsky. who re-appeared in the Beehstem Hall before a very large audience, they seem undoubtedly destined to stay. There is no sign whatever in their splendidly vigorous, ensemble, their exemplary enthusiasm, and their evergrowing skill to induce the thought that they are not likely to rise from high things to even vastly higher. There is ho denying the sheer ability of the brothers—they .showed it in various solos by Goltermanp, Ernest, Arensky, Tsc-hoikowsky, and Chopin; it is genuine and great.” The box plan for Tuesday’s concert is now open at Mrs. Cook’s. Special concessions are being made to parties of students.
