HIGHWAY PROBLEMS. CBY TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) PALMERSTON N., Sept. 25. The annual meeting of the Wellington provincial branch of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers was held this evening, the chairman (Mr J. R. Hughes,. Palmerston North borough engineer) presiding. Delegates were present from Palmerston North, anganui, Shannon, Hunteiville, Fending, Marton, Mangahao, ' and Carterton. The Mayor (Mr F. J. • Nathan), in welcoming the delegates, said it was a matter for congratulation that the society had been successful in getting legislation through for the registration of engineers and had now' means of protection. There were many burning questions to be considered, such as plants, drainage and sewerage, and road construction. One of the most important was road construction and the consideration of what would be the most economical and efficient method to adopt in this connection. ' The election of officers resulted • Chairman, Mr H. V. M. Hayard (Waiiganui); secretary and treasurer, Mr R, D. To'sswill (Wanganui); executive, Messrs J. R. Hughes and W. A. \\ aters (Palmerston North)', and T. A. Johnston (Mangahao). The following new members were elected: Messrs A. R. Blackwood (Mangahao), Waters, F. C. Hay, and Menzies (Palmerston North). It was decided that the next conference be held at Wanganui in October, 1925. Several papers were then read and discussed, the proceedings being taken m committee.
