SCULLING.

AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP. EASY WIN "FOR PADDON. BY CABLE -PKESS- ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Sept. 21. Padclon defeated Goodsell by 1-5 lengths in the sculling championship of Australia. The race proved- somewhat of a fiasco owing to a mishap to Goodsell. From an even start they raced neck and neck for two hundred yards, where Goodsell had a slight advantage, both doing fast time. He held the champion to a quarter mile, where Goodsell, digging his scull deep and failing to recover, capsized. By the time he got back to his beat Paddon had. a long lead, and though Goodsell rowed a plucky, stern chase, he was in a hopeless position. Paddon did a mile in the record time of five minutes, winning by 15 lengths in 17min 7sec. Goodsell explains that he thought he was getting into Paddon’s water, and in keeping clear he dipped too deeply and capsized. He has rechallenged Paddon, and the challenge has been accepted. Besides his mile record Paddon’s time for the full course of three miles is claimed to he a world’s record. A strong wind behind him assisted.
