At the Police Court, Herbert Seymour Rowe pleaded ’ guilty to five charges of supplying female natives with liquor, and was fined £lO and costs. WHITE ISLAND FERTILISERS. . OPtITIKI, Sept. 13. Ih© .preliminary work of the exploitation of fertilisers in White Island has been completed. The contractor, Mr J. Kerr, has erected huts on the south-western corner, which is a safety zone, and has constructed a jetty between the huts and landing place.’ He has also made a road between the huts and the jetty to facilitate communication. The handle of a shovel, discovered at Mathias Peak, is believed to he a relic of the disaster of 1914. CHARGE OF ASSAULT. DUNEDIN, Sept. 13. ■ the Police Court. Chas. Leonard Leamon Hankins was remanded till Friday on a charge of assaulting Manr-i(-e Brady, a barman, at . the Grand Hotel, so as to cause actual bodilv harm;
The police stated that when Brndv was ejecting accused the latter drew a knife and drove it- clean through Brady’s hand.
On other charges of drunkenness and obscene language accused was fined.

HAMILTON. Sept. 15. A fire at J. J. Niven and Co.’s ivundiw caused damage amounting to about £ISOO. which is covered by insurance. The brigade made a wonderful save, as the fire had a good hold when discovered:

The Post Office at Manutuke was broken into on Saturday and i .re parcels of stamps and £1 15s in money were taken. The police have arrested a young native, Here Akuira, uho was to-dav remanded for a week on a bnrglary charge.
