OBITUARY
GEORGE COLSON SAGE.
There passed away on Saturday another of New Zealand’s early settlers in the person of Mr. George Colston Sage. Mr. Sage was born at Jacob’s Wells, Bristol, England, on October 1, 1843. He served his apprenticeship as a sailmaker to one John Evans, and made several voyages on the ships. Queen of the Avon, W., M. Clowes, Sir Ralph Abercromby, and True Briton, taking his final discharge at Melbourne on August 31, 1866. He came to New Zealand almost immediately and settled in Wellington, . where he commenced business as a sailmaker, and he. married in 1870 Miss j. E. Scott, only daughter of Mr, Robert Scott, of Upper Willis Street. He carried on business in Wellington for several years, - moving to Masterton in the early eighties and finally to Hawera, where he had resided since Easter, 1900. He leaves a widow and faunly of thirteen, all of whom are still alive. The sons are Messrs R. S. and Frank Sage, of Hawera, and Mr. H. M. Sage, of Rotowaro, Huntly, farmer. The ten daughters are all married but one, and there are a number of grand-children. The late Mr. Sage was a man of sterling character, and his death will be learned with deep regret by his many friends both here and in other parts of the Dominion. To the family is extended sincere sympathy in their bereavement.
