FAULTS TO BE AVOIDED

Ihe delegates to the Wool Conrerence at Bradford spent the morning inspecting the Saltaxre mills. A considerable time was spent in the burimg department dismissing methods of eliminating blemisnes ivhich the trade contends snouid and could be practically avoided by "growers. Much 'interest was also snown in the proposed wool pack with, which the trade hopes to repiace the jute pack. It was pointed out that jute fibre unavoidably becomes mixed with the wool, and cannot be detected until the finished cloth appears, requiring a large staff of buglers to remove the blemishes, as jute is not affected by wool dye. It is hoped that this difficulty wilL he avoided by the use of wool packs. Subsequently the delegates were entertained at luncheon at the Town Hall by the Lord Mayor. Replying to the toasts of the guests, Air Calebatch (nest Australia), referring to Air Dawson’s speech of last evening, said he hoped England would be wary about adopting a policy of throwing obstacles •m the way of loans .for the development of the Dominions, thereby retarding the absorption overseas of Britain’s surplus population. 7 Reuter. .. LONDON, Sept. 10. After luncheon the Wool Growers’ Conference resumed to enable the ventilation of some points which were regarded as insufficiently discussed. Aitr Aykroyd (president) stated that a verbatim report of the conference would be issued to pastofalists of the Dominions. „ Mr Tulloch secretary to the Bradford Chamber, said that experiments with new branding had hitherto proved satisfactory in the Highlands and iii the laboratory, hut , a further year’s experiments were being made by one of the members of the Bradford committee 011 his own sheep. Air Alichaellian (South Africa) asked about the suitahilitv of tattoo oil used in South Africa.

Mr Aykroyd replied that this branding had not been examined, and on his Request Mr Alichaellian promised to send a number of fleeces liiarked with tattoo oil to Bradford for chemical treatment.
