The above sketch is from “The Agricultural Gazette ” (England), and is a suitable device to prevent cows from sucking themstelves.. The contributor of it explained that the pole is held in position by a rope or chain from the haltei;. and surcingle; and does not cause discomfort to the cow when lying down. It is in fairly frequent use in the Midlands.
