HOCKEY.
TOURNAMENT at nelson. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) NELSON, Sept. 2. The best game in the hockey tournament so far was that this afternoon between Southland and Ruahine, which ended in a draw. Ruahine proved to be a clever team on their game, and Southland was rather fortunate to come out unbeaten. The play was exceedingly fast and exciting, the northerners being the first to score, which they did soon after the commencement of the second spell, and 10 minutes before the end Southland evened up, the game ending one all. Additional results were: Hawke’s Bay heat Nelson B hv 10 goals to 1 (A Section), and Wellington beat Eastern by 2 goals to nil (B Section). THE DOMINION TOURNAMENT. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 2, The New Zealand Hockey Association’s annual tournament opened at Lancaster Park this afternoon. The weather was fine, but the ground was rough. Auckland heat Canterbury B by two goals to one. The visitors had the better of the game all the way. Canterbury A beat Wellington by two goals to nil after a good exhibition. The tournament will be continued on Thursday.
