That the East End Park, which is; situated at the foot of High street, is I to become a popular resort is indicated j by the number of people who visited it last Sunday afternoon. Considerable interest is displayed in the collecting and planting of native plants. In addition to a number of fine birches planted recently, the park has benefited by a valuable addition of four well-grown lcowhai (Soohora Titraptera Grandiflora), six native myrtles (Myrtus Bullata), a variety of pittosporum, and several lancewood (Pseudopanax). These are the gift of Mr G. E. Shailer. Tn addition to the above a number of other native trees have been secured by local enthusiasts. Mr Garnett, who is in charge of the work, yji'ill be very pleased to hear of anyone who would care to make a contribution of native trees or plants. “The theft of petrol from motor garages is all too common throughout New Zealand.” said Mr E. D. Moseley, S.M., in the Oamaru Magistrate’s Court (reports the North Otago Times). “It is hardly safe for a man to put his car in a garage in some parts without a theft is committed, and these thefts call for an exemplary punishment,” he added.
