THE PLANET MARS. (To the Editor.) Sir,—lt seems to me that a word of public thanks is due to our local astronomers for the generous manner in winch they have opened their observatories to the public during the interesting : s \ ght of the Planet Mars. While the telescopes are private property, vet the owners have been good enough* to allow anyone who called to observe the planet, and these gentlemen adjusted their instruments and explained.' interesting facts that have placed the public under a debt of gratitude to them. A generous public spirit on the part of the townspeople helps to popularise a town, and augurs well for its future. —I am, etc., GRATEFUL.
