WILD SPEECHES
LABOUR GATHERING. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Aug. 25. 11.5 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 24. Speeches of the wildest description were delivered in the Memorial Hall, London, at a conference under the auspices of the Red International of Labour Unions. Mr Tom Mann, presiding, said: “V r e are not disruptionists, but men who know what we want. The press, church, and other influences that may be against us can go to the devil.” Another speaker said: “If you want anything you’ll only get it by brute massed force.”
The conference adopted resolutions demanding a minimum wage of £4 weekly, and the repeal of legislation against the working class, particularly the use of armed forces in industrial disputes.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
