FREE DRINKS ON POLLING DAY. FRENCH ELECTION SCANDAL. <.IT ”‘,KL*—PRES« ASSOCIATION--COPYBIGF’ Received Aug. 20, 12.40 p.m. LONDON, Aug* 19. The Daily Herald says a political scandal of the first magnitude has arisen in France, consequent on Deputy Revrier’s declaration that Baron Maurice de Rothschild, a recentlyelected deputy, had no polities, and simply represented money. He had literally bought voters at so much per capita throughout a constituency near the Swiss border. Men, women, and children, open handed, flocked round Baron de Rothschild, while free drinks were available to everyone on polling day. Information arising from Deputy Revrier’s charges has been laid in the law courts. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
