DISQUALIFICATION OF JONES AND McCARTEN. The stipendiary stewards of the A.J.C. took action to-day, which will cause another stir in racing circles. F. D. Jones, trainer of the A.J.C. Derby winner Ballymena, and M. McCarten, one' of the Dominion’s best riders, were each disqualified for twelve months, says the Sydney Sun of Augus't 11. Royal Despatch was a runner in the first division ol the Maiden Handicap at Canterbury Park on Saturday, and started second favourite. He neer looked a possibility, however, and finished a. long way back. After the lace, the stewards, Messrs. Higgins. Mayes ami Coombes, opened an inquiry into his form, bui: owing to the short space of time between the races had not time to hear evidence, and the case was adjourned till this morn, ing. After taking evidence the stew ards reported that they had found F. D. Jones, trainer, and M. M6Carteh, rider of the gelding, guilty of imwithin the meaning of rule II I, and Lhoy disqualified each of them for a period of twelve months. Ihe stewards decided to give Mr. H A. Knight, owner, who is in New Zealand, an opportunity to attend to show cause why the horse Royal Despatch should not be similarly dealt with.

Ihete was nothing in the evidence to suggest that Mr. Knight was in any way implicated in the case and it is considered that he will have no difficulty in clearing the horse. This means/ that should lie choose, to transfer his horses to a trainer in Sydney Ballymena will be able to take his place in the w.i.a. races at Randwick. Royal Despatch came to Sydney flOlll Zealand about a month ago, in company with Ballymena, Murihaupo, Glentruin, and other members of F. D. Jones’ team. Shortly after arriving be was given a run with E Lowe in the saddle, in the second dnision of the Maiden Handicap at Moorefield on July 19, but alter showing a little pace lie died out. The stewards inquired into bis showing on that occasion, when Jones was able to show that lie had backed the gelding, and his explanation was accepted. Royal Despatch was produced acm in last Saturday in the first of the Maiden Handicap, and before the race Jones told a friend that he was not confident about the gelding, but had put enough money on to win back his Moorefield losses. He said he did not fancy that Royal Despatch would be altogether suited by the Canterbury course, but thought he mio-fit do bettor than at hi.s last start. TRAINER’S STRING. If the disqualifications stand new arrangements will have to be made tor the training of several horses that now in Jones’ charges. That trainer came to Sydney laH spring with Balymenn, Urgency. Zaragonza. and Murihaupo, and at his first. mooting at Canterbury Bark won with the first-named three. Later on he won the A.J.C. Derby with Ballymena laving luund that races we’re not hard to win at suburban lneetinns in Sydney, he included Roval n perlonner in New Zealand, in his team tins year.
