SHUNTING FATALITY.
RAILWAY GUARD KILLED. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 14. A shunting accident occurred at Petone at about 9.30 last night, resulting in the death of a guard named R. Harrison. Deceased, who was in charge of a goods train, was engaged in shunting operations at the Gear Meat Company’s siding. He was apparently’ standing on the end of a waggon, and was shaken off just after the waggon crossed the points. The truck passed over his body’.- The truck was of the eld style and had lio brake handle on the side on which.'Harrison was.. All the foothold he would have would be a wooden protection about two inches wide, and as he would have one hand occupied in holding his lantern his position would be precarious. A doctor and ambulance were summoned, but before their arrival the man was dead. The deceased was between 45 and 50 years of age, and was a married man residing in Wellington.
