The following rates on foreign exchanges are current to-day, compared with par:—Brussels (franc) 90.5 (par 25.225); Paris (fraifc) 81.85 (25.225); Stockholm (kroner) 16.75 (18.159) : Christiania (kroner) 32.25 (18.159) ; Copenhagen (kroner) 27.43 (18.159); Rome (lire) 101.5 (25.225); Calcutta 1/54 (2/-); Yokohama 1/104 (2/04); Hongkong 2/43 (2/-); New York (dollar) 4.47 (4.866); Montreal (dollar) 4.46 f (4.866). The mark is quoted from Berlin at 18 5-8 billions to the sterling, compared with 194 billions on July’2B. Favourable developments ‘at the inter-Allied Conference caused an improvement in exchanges and was also reflected on the Stock Exchange, where gilt-edged stock all advanced. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated August 4, from Calcutta, regarding the linseed market: Immediate shipment quoted at £22 per ton C- and F. Sydney. Cheese— Steady; white 94s per cwt, coloured 88s to 90s. Frozen Meat—The market for wethers is more active owing to short supplies of Argentine. 1 The advance on ewes is likely to be maintained.
