ATTACK ON MR, THEODORE. A VIGOROUS DEFENCE. BY CABLE—PRESS ABSOCIATTON—COPYRIGHT Received Aug. 6, 11.45 a.m. BRISBANE, Aug. 6. In the Assembly Mr. Theodore, replying to an attack by the mover of the censure' motion, supplied reasons why the Government had refused to increase the wages of public servants and give a forty-four hour week. Such concessions would cost £ UK),000 annually, and in view of the monetary stringency curtailment of expenditure was necessary. He could not see any valid reason why the Government employees should be placed on a better basis than outside workers. He had always resisted providing higher wages for one class. Dealing with the contention that he should resign, Mr. Theodore said he was there because he was allowed to carry such legislation as he believed practical. He would take no interest inside qr outside Pjarliament to retain the position, and would not grizzle if relegated to a subordinate position in the Labour Party: The Communist party had come in to bore from the inside and would destroy the movement. If not stopped it would crumble and dis-appear—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
