SHOT DEAD
END OF LONG STRUGGLE. A COURAGEOUS AY OMAN. DISPUTE OVER LANDS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. MEXICO CITY, Aug. 3. Mrs Rosalie Evans, widow of a. lormer president of the Dank of London in Mexico, was shot dead m the vicinity of lexmelucan, in the State of Puebla, on Saturday evening. Mrs Evans was shot through the left side, failing from the buggy in which she wa.s driving. Her hair was caught in the wheels and the body was dragged along the ground, the face being badly mutilated. John Strauss, the Lcirman manager for Mrs Ivans’ hacienda, who aas accompanying her, was seriously Mounded. The slayers, who are believed to be agrarians incited by anti-foreign agitators, escaped M'ith the pay-roll of 2000 pesos, which Strauss was carrying. The name of Mrs Evans (recently came up in connection M'ith the alleged attempts by Mexican troops to seize her great estate. It M'as reported that large portions of her arable lands had been taken over and many live stock had been driven off. Mrs Evans’ fight against the alleged attempts to seize her property was taken up by the British Charge d’Archives (Mr Cummings), and an acrimonious dispute between him and the Mexican authorities on behalf of Mrs Evans resulted in the Government’s demand for his withdrawal.
