MORTGAGES.
The latest issue of the Abstract of Statistics contains some interesting figures concerning mortgages registered and discharged. Fdr the twelve months ended June 30 there were 41,140 , mortgages registered of a value of £40,992,062 compared with 35,635 mortgages of a value of £27,659,910 registered during the twelve months ended June 30, 1923. During the year ended June 30, 1924, 29,082 mortgages valued at £24,405,643 were discharged compared with 22,342 of a value of £16,071,122 discharged during the previous year. For the month of March last the value of mortgages registered was phenomenal, being £6,007,916 compared with £2,578,419 for the corresponding month last year. These figures seem to indicate that more money is becoming available for mortgagee. For the month of June mortgages registered totalled 3543 of a value of £3,317,453, and discharges 2212 of a value of £2,555,915. Taranaki had 172 registrations totalling £148,945, while 140 mortgages valued at £120,450 were discharged during the month, the district being sixth on the list of the eleven districts in the matter of registrations and seventh in discharges.
