According to a report by the Government statistician, the total value of the production of all recorded industries in Australia during 1923 amounted to £382,208,000, or an average of £67 17s per head of the population. ’Hie number of persons engaged in 19,173 manufacturing establishments was 412.410, and the salaries and wages amounted to £71,133,152. JThe area under crop totalled 16,543,555 acres, the value of the products being £84,182,501. The Australian nett national debt at June 30 last, according to Dr. Earle Page’s Budgetamounted to £335,123,811, and war debt to the extent of £9,041,670 was redeemed out of revenue and sinking fund during the year—Aus.-N.Z.
