ROBBERIES.
MANY IN MELBOURNE. BY CABLE—PEESS {ASSOCIATION —COPYEIGHT MELBOURNE, Aug. 3. In. view ot the frequency of robberies, particuarlly on Friday, pay night in the city, the regular and special police forces have been largely augmented. The latest case is that of, Thomas Marriott, a well-known bookmaker, who. received a- ’phone call at,the club, stating that a lady wished to see him outside. He was suspicious and placed a revolver in his pocket. On reaching the passage a man grabbed him: and two others rushed up. Marriott drew his revolver and fired a couple of shots. The men bolted and escaped.
