ELTHAM GOLF BALL.

A GREAT SUCCESS. One of the most interesting social functions in connection’ with golf on this coast is the annual ball held by the Eltham Golf Club. This year the ball was held on Wednesday in the Town Hall, and proved an outstanding success. Quite a large number of members of neighbouring clubs were present, including visitors from Hawera., Stratford, New Plymouth, Maiiaia, Patea, Waverley' and Kaponga. The committee had been at great pains to make every preparation, of the very best, and the successful result proved the value of their efforts. The decorations of the hall were a triumph, a host of coloured streamers from the walls radiating from all sides to a central dome, specially made by Mr. Turner, senr., from which were suspended balloons of various colours, the effect being very pretty and artistic. Round the walls were floral decorations which added much to the general good effect. There were very effective decorations on the stage, and an ante-room was nicely fitted up as a lounge. The floor was, as always, in capital order, and dancing therefore to the most excellent music of Renwiek’s orchestra, was a special pleasure. The dancers, to the number of over two / hundred, all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The naming of the dances was most appropriate, being taken from the clubs used, from the spoon waltz to the rpashie, names of popular players, Kirkwood, Hagen and .Ross, and various golfing terms. A large number of spectators viewed the dancing from the gallery, and the many beautiful dresses of the ladies provided a very pretty picture. A capital supper was provided by a ladies’ committee, and this was much appreciated. The M.C.’s were Messrs. Quin (2). Turner (2) and J. L. Campbell, and they all looked after dancers thoroughly welj and contributed in no small measure to the success of the evening. The committee are to be congratulated on the success achieved.
