The Premier (Mr. W. P. Massey) was" absent from the House yesterday owing to a slight attack of influenza. At a meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club last evening, Mr W. B. Bussell, who is well known by Taranaki sportsmen, was appointed judge. Under the will of the late Mr. Frederick Martin, of Hawera, who died on July 10, the Public Trustee is appointed executor and trustee. The will provides for a gift of £IOO to the Methodist Church of New Zealand centenary fund. Our Wellington " correspondent telegraphs that the Premier, w r ho was absent from the House yesterday owing to a severe chill, received one deputation to-day, but on medical advice decided again to take a rest to-day. • The death of Mr. J. Wooldridge and the loss the Okato and Puniho Dairy Company had sustained was referred to at the annual meeting of the company. Mr. Wooldridge was for many years a director of the company, and at the time of his death was chairman. During the course of the children’s fancy ball, held in Wanganui last evening. under the auspices of the Northern School Committee, the opportunity was taken to make Mr CJ. H. Warden, headmaster of the Queen’s Park School, who has been appointed headmaster of the Wanganui East School, the recipient of a wallet of notes. A telegram from New London, Connecticut, says that Lord Southhorough (a former Civil Lord of the Admiralty) is there arranging a visit of the Prince of Wales in September, aftelr the Meadowbrook polo. The Prince will be brought there on a warship, where he will train for Canada.—Cable message. It is with regret, that we record the death of Thelma Olive, the youngest daughter of Mrs. Peters, of Nelson Street, at the age of years. The little girl was in her usual good health yesterday afternoon, when she was suddenly taken ill with appendicitis; An operation was performed, but peritonitis supervened, and the little sufferer did not recover ?ro;fi its effects. Much sympathy will be felt for the family in their sad bereavement.
