SPOILED FRUIT. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, July 26. Members of Parliament attended the discharge of fruit from the ■ steamer Ngakuta..this morning, the fruit -landing in a bad . condition,., If was stated by. the master, of the ship. that, the oranges were put aboard at Mangaia and Rnratonga in an over-ripe condition, considering that there would be an ordinary passage. '. As it was the ship encountered severe weather in the Islands themselves, causing them to shut down. At Mangaia. severe southerly gales made the ship 48 hours overdue. The holds were ventilated by the hatches all the way, notwithstanding the severity of the weather, and the stacks had not shifted. THE FRUIT INDUSTRY. WELLINGTON, July 27. It is expected that the export of cases of fruit for the current season will show an increase to over 240,000, or 90,000 more than for the last season. BANKRUPTS DISCHARGE ( REFUSED. AUCKLAND, July 26. Refusing an application for discharge from bankruptcy of Hans Peter Mortensen, Mr. Justice Stringer said that the assignee’s report showed that after the assets had been realised, the liabilities were £7405 and assets £3O. During the past five years Mortensen systematically gambled in land. He appeared to have put through transactions. his capital being an equity in a property. He had kept no books, and such a man was not fit to carry on business on lrjs own account and incur liabilitv
