OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. “THE SCARLET LILY.” The beautiful Katherine MacDonald, known all over the wide world as “The American Beauty of the Screen,” opens this evening at the Opera House with her latest—and finest—cinema production. It is “The Scarlet Lily,” a First National picture produced by B. P Schulberg, and directed by Victor Schertzinger from Fred Sittenham’s original story. Miss MacDonald is seen as the wife of a candidate for the district attorneyship, who faces defeat and pi ofessional run because his wife, in a time of great distress, had become involved, quite innocently, with a notorious politician. The" story bares some of the workings of the Apolitical game, giving an insight into the unscrupulous methods which characterise it. A really excellent supporting programme will-.be provided. THE GRAND—TO-NIGHT. HOOT GIBSON. Hoot Gibson comes to the Grand tonight in his most novel role as a firedroll sense, and considering the fact that he has a good story .in ‘Hook and Ladder,” it grants ’him ample opportunity to do a number of amusing things that he has never done oetore. Gibson portrays the role of a cowboy who joined the fire department on an impulse and regretted it the first time he started to climb a ladder on the training tower. His antics here are exceedingly funny, and some thrilling situations are presented. Buddy Messenger will be seen in “Quit Kidding also another enisode of “Phantom Fortune.”
