OBITUARY.
MR, V. G. MARLOW, General regret (says the Taranaki Herald) will, be felt in Waitara at the death, at the age of 61 years, of Mr illiam George Marlow, which occurred at New Plymouth Hospital on Sunday night. The late Mr Marlow had resided at W’aitaira for eleven years, and during that time his great vitality and interest in affairs, combined • with a lovable disposition, endeared him to a wide circle of friends. For thirty years Mr Marlow was on the literfvry’ staff: of the Time's, in London, and reasons of health led to his coming to New Zealand with the members’ of his family. Several years after taking up his residence at Waitara he became asociated with Mr G E. Gaustad in business in the firm of Gaustad, Marlow and Co. As local correspondent ofs? the Taraanki Herald and Budget, Mr Marlow did excellent service, both for these newspapers and for the town of 'Waitara. A keen interest which he tok in farming matters was reflected in articles, based on investigations made in the surrounding districts, which he contributed to these columns at' various times. Though his health had never been robust, Mr Marl#,v maintained an active life until a wesk or two ago. He was an enthusiastic , gardener, and unfortunately, it was blood-poisoning following a prick from a irose-thorn, which was the direct cause of liis death.
Much sympathy will be extended to the late Mr Marlow’s family, which consists of Mrs Marlow and a son (who is iii the'•Government service in England) and a daughter (Mrs H. G. Sell, of Waitara). Another son’died on war service. MRS. M. JONAS. sne of the older residents of Waitara, who had a wide circle of friends both here and in New Plymouth* passed away on Sunday in the person of Mrs Elizabeth Jonas, relict of the late Captain M. Jonas. Mrs Jonas was a daughter of the late Mr Wright Huffier King and a sister of the late Mr M. D. King, who 'was in business in New Plymouth about forty years ago. A sister, Miss King, resides in New Plymouth.—Herald.
The death occurred at the residence of her father, Mr H. McEwen, in Palmerston, of Mrs J. C. Parker, of Feilding, at the age of 52 years. She was born at Marton, and educated at the Longburn and Tiakitahuna Schools. She was married at Karere in 1892, and subsequently lived in the Hunterville, Taranaki and Feilding districts. The many friends of Mr C. H. Chavannes, junr., will regret to hear of his death, which occurred on Sunday at the early age of 38 years. The deceased was the son of Mr and Mrs C. H. Chavannes, and spent all his life in Wanganui. In his boyhood days he was a noted shot at gun club meetings throughout New Zealand, and was always keenly interested in sport.
