Major Imbrie, the American Consul, was Killed and an American citizen, Mr Seymour, was wounded while photographing a public fountain. A police official and six policemen were also injured. The fountain is dedicated to an Imaum, and allegedly is the scene of a miracle performed a few days ago. This led to huge crowds making a pilgrimage to the spot, and the mob necame enraged and attacked Major Im 7 brie. The tragedy is the culmination of strong anti-foreign, and’ particularly anti-Dritish propaganda, by the native press, which the Government is unable to control owing to the want of proper press laws. Received July 21, 11.45 a.m. TEHERAN, July 20. Martial" law has been proclaimed in Teheran, and several suspects have been arrested in connection with the Imbrie murder.—Reuter.
