STRATFORD LINE.
A POET AT WORK. WELLINGTON, July 17. The fact that the Largest deputation that ever left Taranaki was to wait on the Prime Minister to-day to urge the building of the Stratford—Okahuknra railway moved “Insignis” to send the following lines to the Dominion: “We are coming, Mr, Massey, Right down through Taranaki, To remind you of a promise overdue. If von make our railway surer, Stratford to 'Okahuknra, There is nothing that we may not do for you. Party chieftains have orated, Politicians have debated — From the time, we got the Main Trunk
and before. All the wisdom of the sages, All the logic of the ages, Back from the time of Ballance to 1924. Liberal-Labour, crusty Tory, In this land of hope and glory Sing the praises of the hardy pioneer, So with statesmanlike endeavour Build this line that you may ever Earn the goodwill of the country you hold dear.”
