BEER PROFITS.
NEW ZEALAND BREWERIES. (BY TELEGRAPH —rrrp 1 * APfj*WjlT»ON 1 WELLINGTON, July 16. The first annual meeting of .the New Zealand Breweries. Ltd., was held todav. sA. statement of accounts was presented for the nine months. After making allowances for management charges, interest on debentures, and the necessary reserve for taxation, the company made a gross profit of £453,550, from which was deducted the amount paid in beer duty (£367,910), leaving a net profit of £85,640. The directors recom r mended that the whole of the preliminary expenses (£14,434) be written off and £25,000 placed to reserve; that a dividend at the rate of 10 oer cent per annum, absorbing £37,500, he paid' and that the balance of £8705 be carried forward.
The chairman said that of the total Customs alcoholic beverages paid nearly 16 per cent.
