CROWN LEASES.
—■ SALE BY AUCTION. The leases of a number of Crown lands were offered at public auction at the District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, yesterday morning. There was a, meagre attendance, and bids were received for only two leases, which were disposed of as follow: Reserve, situated on the Hastings road, about four miles from Normanby, area 5 acres 0 roods; term of lease, 14 years; upset annual rental £7.—H. B. Thompson (Okaiawa), upset. Crown land, section situated at the junction of Battiscombe Terrace and Ranfurly Terrace, Waitara; area, 17 acres 1 rood 30 perches; term of lease, five years; upset annual rental, £3O 12s 6d.—Messrs Thos. Borthwick and Sons, Ltd., £45. The 14-year leases of nine other reserves, one situated at Puniwhakau, two at Makaka, five contiguous to the town of Opunake (railway reserves), and one at Whangamomona, were passed in, failing to attract a bid, as also were three other Crown land five-year leases °f. two sections in Aria suburban district (Waitomo County), and one in Ohura Township.—Herald.
