£ (From Our Own Correspondent.) PLUNKET SOCIETY. The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was held on Friday. Present • Mesdames Sutherland (chair), Hobday, Craig Judd, Young, Garalin, Smith, Foynter. ’ , Vot ®' of thanks was parsed to the Hawera Hospital Board for their generosity in the Dunlop case, and also to the Hawera- Plunket Society for their trouble m sending a deputation to the Hospital. Board. Mesdames Sutherland, Judd, Hobday and Poynter were appointed an executive to deal with any emergencies. Ihe following remit will be sent to the general conference to he held in Wellington: “That an endeavour be made to introduce the Plunket system of feeding babies into all public hospitals m New Zealand.” YOUNG PEOPLE’S CLUB. Another very 'successful evening was held on Monday last, nearlv 50 bein°present. Ihe topic for the evening was a debate: 1 That schoolboys are happier than any other period of life.” The affn-mative was taken by Messrs L. and K. Christie and the negative by Messrs G. Boyle and J. Lloyd. The former maintained that the care-free days of youth with the- interests of sport and companionship easily outweighed in happiness all the other periods of life, ihe latter took the position that maturity of life was required for the highest happiness. Irresponsibility, the absence of cares and worries did" not mean the presence of happiness. It required the larger and broader interests and the satisfaction of accomplishment to give happiness. A number of others took part, and on a vote being taken on the merits of the question ■schooldays” had it by an overwhelming majority. On a further vote beiim taken on the merits of the debating” the affirmative had the verdict bv to 18.

A Limerick competition was won by Mr R. Earley, with Mr H. Wills second. and a geographical test was won hv Misses A. Hosie and G. Bennett. A ping-yiong tournament is being arianged, and -will he played off during then next few weeks. The W.C.T.U? have offered two prizes of one guinea and a half guinea for the best essav on “No License in New Zealand.” The offer was accepted and the thanks of the club expressed. The topic for next Monday is “Towns and Citizens,” and will be taken hv Mr W . R. Taylor, of Hawera.
