Nourse, with 68, completed his thousand runs for the season. — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. The weather was dull and threatening for the match South Africa v. Yorkshire at Bradford. Play was interrupted for a good 10 minutes on account of rain before luncheon, and rain fell during the luncheon adjournment. The Africans were all out for 279 at the tea adjournment, after which the rain stopped further play. Nourse made 68 by magnificent driving and powerful cutting. He batted 90 minutes, and hit 11 fours. Taylor made 79 in 175 minutes, including 10 fours. He started cautiously, but , afterwards played bright cricket. The innings lasted 275 minutes. Macaulay took six wickets for 66.—Reuter. WOOD RETIRING FROM TESTS. LONDON, July 3. Hie wicketkeeper Wood will not play in the remaining tests. The Laboulie course French open golf championship, for the first time in its seventeen years’ history, was won by an. amateur British player, Cyril Tolley, with a. seventy-two. hole aggregate of 290. In the Diamond Sculls at Henley, R. H. Muttlelmry beat H. A. Montefiroe. —Aus.-N.Z Gable Assn. BOXING. WELLINGTON CENTRE CHAMPIONSHIP. MEETING AT HAWERA. Followers of boxing will he interested in learning that -the Hawera Association has accepted the offer of the Wellington Centre Executive to control the Wellington Centre first annual championships, _ which were formerly announced to take place at Wanganui. The meeting is to he held at Hawera on the 18th and 19th of this month. The programme includes classes for all weights from fly to heavy, and as the winners are to represent the Wellington Centre in the New Zealand championships at Wellington next month the pick of our amateurs will be seen in action. In each class the winners and runners-up will, receive gold and silver medals respectively. The local association is noted for the success which has attended its activities, and it is to he hoped that a worthy public •support will be accorded in what should prove the finest gathering of amateurs ever seen in the district.
