LOANS FOR HASTINGS. (BY TELEGRAPH —PREBS ASSOCIATION,) HASTINGS, July 3. The ratepayers yesterday carried a poll to raise a loan of £49,000 for permanent roads, footpaths and sewer extensions ; also £IB,OOO for supper-rooms at the Assembly Hall. THEFT OF MONEY. CHRISTCHURCH, July 2. Foster Alexander Ramsey, aged 22, postmaster at Brookside, pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court to a- charge ox stealing £26 8s 9d, the property of the Postmaster-General, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. WELLINGTON CUSTOMS. WELLINGTON. July 2. The Customs revenue collected at W ellington for the half-year eliding July 30 shows an increase of £42,094 over the same period of 1923. The quarterly figures For 1924 were £539,924 and £475,878, as compared with £450,207 and £493,503 in 1923. The total amount collected in the past half-year was £1,015,903, as against £973,709 for the same period of 1923 ADULTERATED MILK. i BLENHEIM, July 3. ■ George Wareham, a milk vendor, was fined at the Magistrate’s Court £lO and costs for selling milk adulterated with boric acid. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. AUCKLAND, July 3. At the Police Court Esmond Edwin Rodburne Lutterill, aged 35, pleaded not guilty to a charge, of entering the Avondale railway station, blowing open the safe and stealing £SB 12s 6d. He was committed for trial. 'Bail of £SOO was allowed. \ r 0 DUNEDIN DRAINAGE LOAN. DUNEDIN, July 3. The Drainage Board’s loan of £226,000 .has been completely subscribed in New Zealand, and 95 per cent, of it in Dunedin. Mr Taverner, chairman of the Finance Committee, stated that the actual rate of interest, including the cost of raising the loan, was £5 10s sd, as compared with £6 3s 6d for a 10 years’ loan in London.
