An interesting incident took place on Saturday last when a stout, elderly gentleman entered a tram-ear (says the Chronicle). There wa s not an einptv seat available, and the new arrival became a strap-hanger. There were manv young people sitting near him. but not one rose to offer him a seat, till a, sturdy little fellow got up at the far end of the car and offered his seat to the standing passenger. “You will have plenty of time to sit dowp when you get to the pictures,” was what the old man said as lie thanked the boy for.giving him his seat. “I have nevcV been to the pictures yet.” replied the lad. “Y'ou don't tell me that! Why. most boys vour age go to the pictures two or three times a week. Where do you live-'” Then tjie boy explained that he had come up to see the Winter Show, and that he lived in the back bush country, just on the border of the Auckland and Taranaki provinces, many miles from a railway station, and that 'although he had been to a concert in the schoolroom, he had never been to the Ipictures. “You fare a" good bby, and I hope there are many boys like you in the country,” said the man, and then, forcing a note into the boy’s hand, he told him that'would take him to the pictures every night for a whole week while he was in a city, and then, raising his voice loud enough for all the other boys in the car, who now became interested, to hear, he said that the country boy could at least teach some of them manners when lie was gentleman enough to rise and give an elderly person a seat.
