INCURABLE OPTIMIST. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION 0 WELLINGTON, July 3. The creditors in the bankrupt estate of Alfred Elaton, mailman, grocer, Island Bay, decided that be be submitted to a public examination. The solicitor for one creditor stated that bankrupt had started Avith a capital of £55, but in six months this and £7OO move had been “sunk”, and no trace could be found of it. Solicitor for bankrupt said the latter’s trouble Avas that he Avas an incurable optimist. MINERS ON STRIKE. - AUCKLAND, July 3. The position at Wilson’s mine, Hikurangi, where che miners are on strike owing to tiie'dismissal of a miner, is unchanged. Mr P. Hally (Conciliation Commissioner), who has been at Hikurangi, has returned to Auckland. Mr Hallv said he had been unable to induce the company to reinstate the miner, and at present the matter is at a standstill. It was probable that, as a iresuit of a.-meeting of : miners .on Sunday, a satisfactory arrangement would be arrh-ed at. NAPIER; CUSTOMS RETURNS. NAPIER, July 2. Customs revenue collected in Napier during the past six months totalled £108,322, an increase of £18,940 OA’er the corresponding period last year.
