(From Our Own Correspondent). PRESENTATION GATHERING. The members of the Alanaia Rifle Club assembled at the homestead of Mir and Mrs T. Ale Phillips on Tuesday night lor the purpose of making a presentation to Mis McPhiliius on ner departure lroin Manaia. i\lv J. S. Metvay, - president of the Manaia Rifle Club, in making the presentation, eulogised the kindness of., .the McPhillips family to the Rifle Chib since its inauguration, especially Mrs McPhillips. \Vhen the club was very short of finance she was instrumental in getting up a social, which brought in £36. Mrs McPhillips' always took an interest in the club, and on many occasions provided afternoon tea to the club and visiting teams.' The speaker referred to Airs McPhillips’ kindly disposition, which, endeared her to all with, whom she came in contact, and always gave her valuable assistance to every worthy cause held in Manaia for charity or otherwise. The departure of the McPniliips’ family was a decided loss to the district, and on behalf of tlie Rifle Club he wished Air and Airs Ale Phillips and family long life and every comfort in their new home at New Plymouth. Colonel Sutherland endorsed the remarks, of the president, and spoke of the populayity of the AtcPhili.ips family, who had extended all courtesy to the Rifle Club. Their departure was a decided loss to the community. He wished Alir. and Airs AlePhillips and family every happiness and health and long life to'enjoy it. Air AfcKay then presented Mrs McPhillips on behalf of the Rifle Chib with a massive Doulton jardfnere. Air Ale Phillips, in responding on behalf of Airs Ale Phillips, returned thanks to Hie members of the Rifle Club for their very nice present and the good wishes that accompanied it, also the speakers foir their kind utterances in reference to Airs Ale Phillips and family, and stated that any little kindness done for the club was a work of pleasure. He assured all present that they were indeed very sorry to leave so many old friends. Airs AfcPhillips would' cherish the gift, which would act as a souvenir to (remind her of many friends in the Alanaia. Rifle Club. A splendid musical programme was provided for the evening. The following gave vocal items: Aliss Vine, Aliss Russell, Alessrs Jas. Hickey, J. Russell, \V. McDonald. A. G.. Cosgrove, S. Blair, Cotterill; violin solos. Ale.isrs P. Alullins and Cotterill. Airs E t . Burke played the accompaniments and also assisted at the dance. Aliss C. Vine and Alessrs P. Mullins and Cotterill: also played for the dancing. The/re were j visitors from all parts of the district. A very nice sapper was provided by the guests, and the evening broke up with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” 1 and “For They are Jolly Good Fel- I lows.” I RIFLE CLUB. j A meeting of the Alanaia Rifle Club | was held last evening, when there was a large attendance Mr. J. S. AlcKay presided. The meeting was called to make ararngements for the plain and fancy masquerade ball, which is to be held in the Alanaia Town Hall on July 16. Strong committees wore set up, and it was decided to»ask the ladies to take charge of the supper-room and
decorations. The following were appointed Al.C.’s: Alessrs AV. J. AlcDonald, S. Blair, A. J. Hansen, and L. Walters. A ladies’ 'meeting is to . lie held on Tuesday afternoon. It is the intention to make this hall one of the best held at Alanaia;
