DAIRY FACTORY MANAGERS.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Dai ( ry Factory Managers of the i arauaki Province was held at Hawera yesterday afternoon. Mr T. HaiL provincial president, presided over* id members. In the absence of the provincial secretary (Mr H. Crosbie,, Mr A. F. Neilson acted during the meeting. . Ihe annual report and balance-sheet was iread and adonted. The annual report stated that the executive congratulated members on tlm state of finance and general. There lad been a net gain or twelve new members during the year, making a total of 61 members for the province, which was very satisraetary. < Duriim the .year conferences had been held'a" Moturoa ana Patea. The former was sparsely attended, but at the Patea Conference, which was held in tlie autumn, there was a very good attendance. Opportunity was taken of thanknig members of the Dairy Division and all others who have, contributed to the success of these meetings. The. executive had endeavoured for some years to get a laboratory established by the Government, hut with little success; Lhe past season had shown the absolute necessity of such a place, as the mUk m many cases haa been abnormal. Lhe. most suitable solution at .present was to. get factories to ‘combine and bond their own laboratory. Tlie president, in welcoming members was pleased to see a good .muster,' and_referred to the executive work doiie during the year, and eulogised the services given by the late secretary He also referred to the need of" a. laboratory and scientific research in ; connection with the industry, and in reference to the suggested "raising of grade points, thought' the raw mate-' (rials should receive first consideration Hd also suggested making more use of space that was reserved for factory managers in the New Zealand Dairy- . man’s columns. As some of the. members present were unable to attend the annual meeting at Hamilton, he asked Mr Neilson to give a brief resume of business done there. , Mr Neilson explained various matters that were before the annual meeting, and answered questions. . v In answer to a question referring to the delegation that had waited on the National Dairy Association with regard : to salaries, Mr Neilson read a resolution he had received from the secretary of the N.D.A. as follows: “That this meeting of the National Dairy Association express its application of the work of the managers and the responsibility they are carrying, and can assure them that the executive of the National Dairy Association will do their best to maintain'the present position.” In a discussion on general business 1 Mr Neilson brought up the question of ■: a. revision of certain classes in connection with cheese at varioujs shows, and it was resolved to recommend to winter show societies: That instead of points prize being allotted as at present, i.e., first, second and third counting as 3. 2 and 1 respectively, to take aggregate \ points over the whole of exhibits; also that where three cheese . are now required for one class to make two suffice; and also that class exhibit in Lonsdale Cup be altered so that 25 oer cent of class exhibit be added to grading average for the season instead of 100 per cent, as obtaining at present. Mr Hall for an expression of opinion re suitable dates for annual grading conferences at Moturoa and Ratea ports. JVlembers • generally wereof the opinion .that February was' the * ' most suitable time, and a recomrnendation was made to the executive to this effect.
Messrs Hall and Neilson referred to the good work done by Mr H. Crosbie, the late secretary, ami on the. motion of Mr Neilson, ’seconded by Mr Hall, the following resolution was passed * “That this-branch of the N.Z. Dairy Factory Managers’ Association place on record the valuable services rendered by Mr Crosbie during his term as provincial secretary, and that a suitable present he forwarded to him from the members in recognition of his good work.” A committee consisting of Messrs Hall, Woods, Thorburn, and .Neilson was appointed to procure the present.
The election of officers resulted as follows: Provincial president, Mr S. E. Hall (Okato); provincial secretary. Mr n' mV i (Ngaere); executive, Messrs G. Illingworth (Alton). ~ A. of thanks to the chair and to the County Council for the usfe of room terminated the meeting.
