PREPARATIONS AT DUNEDIN

(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, June 29. An important stage in the big exhibition project wa.s reached op Saturday, when the first sod was tinned in Logan Park, on which an immediate start will be made with the erection of the exhibition buildings and every care taken to mark the historic occasion with a fitting- and memorial ceremonial. A comprehensive and impressive procession through the mam streets in the afternoon, with an advance guard of 309 boy scouts, led by the Kaikorai band. Then followed a great array of motor-cars, headed by the president (Mr. J. Sutherland Ross), Mr. H. L. Tapley (Mavor), Sir John Roberts and the exhibition directors. Logan Park was gaily decorated for the occasion. Addresses were given by the president and the Mayor, and then tiie actual ceremony of turning the first so ( | was proceeded with. The architect (Mr. E. Anscomho) presented on behalf of the di rectors and the shareholders a .silver-mounted spade to Mr. Ross, and a handsome greenstone model of the spade to Mrs R OSS.
