Bark made a plucky effort, hut was outclassed and unable to make an impression against the American’s bieak sendee and wonderful voicing. Richards won 6—l, 6—l, 6—o. Brookes (Australia), whose injured eye is very inflamed, causing difficulty at times, heat H. Fisher 6—2, 6—2,
A Dutch member of the Davis Cup team (Timmer) beat F. M. B. Fisher (the ex-New Zealander) 7—5, 2—6, 9—-7, 6—3. The contest between Fisher and Timmer was most strenuous. Fisher piayhd a splendid base-line game, but was worn down by Timmer’s precision and tremendous hitting. He must- he counted a strong contender in the championship. The South African, Richardson, dele a ted the New Zealander, J. C. Peacock, 2—6, 6—l, 6—l, 16—8. Lacoste (Fiance) defeated Okamoto (Japan). The meeting of two leading British players resulted in the elimination of O. Turnbull by Gilbert, a member of the Davis Cup team, the score being 6—3, 6—4, 6—4. Washburn (America) beat Godfrey, a member of the British Davis Cup team, 6—4, 6—o, 7—5.
