REFEREft ASSAULTED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT Received June 24, 11.5 a.m. SYDNEY, June 24. At the conclusion of the League football match yesterday a wild demonstration occurred among members in the pavilion. The referee, T McMahon, was assaulted. The trouble followed the ordering off of the Australian forward Potter, allegedly for striking an opponent. ’When the referee left the field he was mobbed and a free fight was narrowly averted. Potter and Bacon (English three-quarter') went to the reassistance, and with the arrival of a- squad of police the trouble cooled off.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
