Letters received from South Africa, but which need confirmation, state that Sir Gordon Sprigg has arranged for Cape Colony to pay £2->,OOO as interest annually instead of presenting a battleship to the Imperial Government. Messrs W. P. Schreiner, ex-Attorney-General, and Innes supported this alteration.
