POLO NOTES

"By I.AX' KR. The H.iwk-/s Bay Polo Club met the Wharerangi Polo Cliib at Napier Park on Saturday. The first team suffered defeat by nine goals to five. '1 his was mainly due to the hard riding o£ the \\ harerangi nic-n, who all possess great dash in the saddle. Chambers played a Stirling game at back and Crosse, who lost condition too rapidly, distinguished himself in the ••• rly stages of the match. H. H. RussUi ;cde hard and well, in fact better than any other in tjie team, but A. H. Russell most unacedhntably showed poor form, only livening up for a Lig run. All T?r- Bennetts hit very hard and rode well throughout, and Bennedy rendered yeoman service. There were two accidents during the match. No. 4 of the Wharerangi team got a bad fall, the pony falling right on top of him. But both escaped unhurt. The second accident was an unfortunate collision between Bennett and Chambers. Both plavers were severely mauled. The junior Hawke's Buy team defeated the junior Wharerangi team by five goals to four. The play all round was moderate and the hitting was very poor. Cooper, Mackenzie, Moran and Ormond all scored for Hawke's Bay. whilst Peacock and Hughes were strongly in evidence for Wharerangi.

A correspondent signing himself -'Ain't it sickening." writes: —"I was pleased that you took notice of the language used bv a couple of boys on Saturday morning.'' He points out that both boys have alreadv been cautioned by the H.B. Committee, and winds up by saying " I am sure if sporting writers would do as you have done and speak a bit plain the" conduct of a great number of the horsey people would improve.
