FROM A DROWNING FATALITY. (Bvr Telegraph). (Per Press Association.) Gisborne, This day. A narrow escape from drowning was experienced last evening by Mr Townley (Major), Captain Thomson, (harbormaster), Mr King (harbor-engineer), and Mr Hastie (an employee of the Harber Board), who were engaged taking soundings in a flat-bottomed boat at the entrance to the river. The boat swamped and the four men were precipitated into the water. Messrs Townley and Hastie managed to grasp a line thrown to them and were hauled &ufc. Captain Thomson was pluckily rescued by his son, whilst Mr King clambered on to the boftoi+i of tjje overturned boat and went floating down the river. Someone jumped off the breakwater and ass gted bim to laad oa tbe pier.
