A SERIOUS CHARGE.

John Hughes Carter, relieving postmaster at . Wickham, has been arrested on a charge of stealing £ IG2 of Government moneys. Yesterday morning Carter was found lying in a dazed condition. The safe, containing over £'2oo, was ransacked. Carter told the police that he was aroused early in the morning by a man entering his room, who struck him a heavy blow on the head, which rendered him insensible. Subsequent investigations led to Carter's arrest. The sum of £l6O was afterwards found hidden under a heap near the office.
