Hooley, the millionaire, has abandoned negotiations with the Chinese Government for the loan of £5,000,000 for the purpose of extending railways in China. An inquest was held touching the death of Edward Langtry, husband of Mrs Langtry, who recently died in a lunatic asylum at Chester. A verdict of accidental death was returned. The Order of the Garter has been conferred upon the Duke of Buecleuch. Ottawa, Oct. 26. A great sensation has been caused in Canada owing to the issue of a pastoral by Archbishop Cleary, of Kingston, declaring it to be a mortal sin for a Catholic to attend a wedding or funeral in a Protestant church. St. Peteesburg, Oct. 26. A fire broke out in the petroleum springs at Baku, causing damage to the extent of a million roubles. Paris, Oct. 26. An artisan, his wife, and four children have committed suicide by suffocation by means of charcoal fumes. A prosecution was pending against the father for ill-treating the children. Berlin, Oct. 26. The visit to the Czar of the Emperor of Germany has been productive of a sensation, The Grand Duke and Duchess of Baden volunteered to pay a visit to the Czar and Czarina at Darmstadt, but the Czar curtly declined to receive them, stating that he was fully engaged. The tone of the Czar's reply is attributed to quarrels between the Grand Dukes of Hesse and Baden. Havannah, Oct. 26. A fearful amount of sickness prevails in Cuba.
