The Midland Railway.

GOOD PROGRESS BEING MADE

(By Telegraph.) (Per Press Association.) Wellington-. This day. Work on the Midland Railway is being actively carried on to the foot of the Otira Gorge. Some 200 men are engaged. There are four miles completed out of fourteen between Jacksons and that point, and it is expected that the liue will be finished to the accommodation house in Otira in 18 months. Platelaving will be started at once to enable the locomotives to bring up stone for the embankments at Riverside. None of the blocks will be less than three tons. At the Nelson end the formation is complete to Norris Gully, and the rails will be laid immediately to enable the line to be ready for the wool season in December.
