Greenfield, S.M., Thomas and Annie Looney were charged with shooting at Feilding on August 16th at T>r Charlton, W. Adams, and L. E. Raide, with intent to kill. Both the accused were committed for trial on throe separate charges, at the next sittings of the Supreme Court, to be held in Wellington on August 30. Inspector Pender conducted the prosecution, and Mr Fitzherbert appeared for the defence. During the hearing of the charge Gillies said he had only known the daughter since the end of June. It did not appear from her evidence that the girl fired at him but at Adams, who was near him. Barrett, licensee of the Manchester Amis, said the girl threatened to shoot Constable Healy when he made towards her, and he stopped. It was about 10 minutes or a quarter of an hour afterwards that Dr Charlton was shot. Another witness said he thought the police ought to have interfered, but believed they would have thrown away their lives had they attempted to arrest her.
