[By Gipsy Grand.] Auckland " books " were struck bard over the Christchureh races. Mountebank (Medallion Vaultress) is doing good work in Dunedin. He is said to be biggest 3-.v*-old in the colony. Mr Stead's buyer has his eye on the colt, and it is probable that Mountebank will carry the yellow jacket and black cap in the New Zealand Cup. The lists of Castor and Hotchkiss for the present season are already full. North Island horses won exactly half the events at the C. J.C's. meeting. Thunderbolt's stock won £2973 last season in South Australia alone. Jocke.y Price, the most successful horseman in N.Z. last season, was apprentice to the cabinet making at Danevirke before he took to the pig skin. Kilsallagban, the Chester Cup winner, dropped dead after winning the Queen's Plate at the Curragh (Ireland) the other day. Persimmon's fee at the stud has been fixed at SOOgns. A good double for the Cups—Waiuku and Hopscotch. These horses are regarded as sprinters, but with preparation they will be quite at home over two miles. Tally-ho returned to Hastings from Christchureh on Saturday, looking none the worst for her trip. She struck herself in the G.N. Steeplechase, but; seems to have recovered.
